نبذة عن تونــس   Information about Tunisia

Tunisia is a welcoming country of vivid colours, evocative scents and spices, ancient cities and warm, friendly people. In this tolerant Muslim land you'll find Arabic culture and tradition, especially when it comes to hospitality, which plays a very important part in the everyday lives of Tunisians.

Capital: Tunis
Language: Arabic and French, text-book French might be handy
Climate: The climate is mild Mediterranean and April to September are the warmest months with little rainfall. Winter months are cool.
Religion: Muslim
Electricity: 220 volts 50 cycle AC, two round pins.
Entry Requirements: Generally just a valid passport or ID card.
Immunisation: None specifically, but check with a GP first, especially if planning to head south.
Cuisine: Eating out swings between fine restaurants in hotels and 'gargotes', spartan local restaurants where food is incredibly cheap. In Tunis, the Dar El Jeld offers luxury cuisine where booking is essential. LePalais offers Tunisian food and music at reasonable prices. Food is deliciously spicy and aromatic.
Places to visit: Ez Zitouna, 'The Mosque of the Olive Tree' is interesting. Almond and spice sellers can still be found along the walls. Visit the beautiful beaches and sparkling seas, then travel south to the Sahara.
Additional Information: Water is usually fine but stick to bottled water as a precaution. Wear modest dress for towns, even men should cover arms and knees. Remember to drive on the right. Toilets can be a problem so stick to those at the hotel. Check when holidays fall as two calendars are in operation.
